Grace O. C-Dina is an interdisciplinary painter based in Rhode Island. She is interested in creating her own speculative mythology, blending her passions for mythology and natural science through traditional painting and 3D animation. Grace earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media Design, and a minor in Art History from Rhode Island College. Currently, she is continuing her studies in the painting program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.
Her artwork depicts otherworldly environments and their inhabitants, exploring both natural and cosmic worlds through the dual lenses of natural science and mythology. Initially inspired by natural elements, Grace's use of color and negative space has evolved into the creation of intricate worlds and open-ended series such as "Terraqueous" and "Pyro-Aerious." These themes culminated in her major series, "Aye Mi."
Step into the heart of my creative vision. This statement offers a deeper understanding of the intentions, influences, and philosophies shaping my visual artist work.
My blog is a living archive of my creative practice, including personal inquiry, graduate school reflections, world-building, and studio process updates.
My artwork consists of a collection of intricate studies and sketches, which reveal the foundations of my artistic practice.
“Pyro-Aerious” (a portmanteau of fire and air) explores this concept in meteorology and mythological elements, with red as the primary color. This series depicts one of the upper worlds in my “cosmographic” series.
"Terraqueous" (meaning forming or consisting of both earth and water) serves as the mid-world in my "cosmographic" series, between the Aquatic and Terrestrial areas.
From the Greek khthonios, meaning “of the earth,” chthonic refers to the deep, hidden forces beneath the surface. This work depicts various structures and false visible light emitting from the lowest point of the underworld.
